Complexity Of The Overall Concept Design

Progress in design, to a great extent, is the progress in thought and concept of design. Took a look at the development of design practice, design always reflects the thought of age and the characteristics in different areas. In different countries, political system, economic situation and culture structure are different, so it forms many kinds of design philosophy. Design methodology is a theory that probe into design method from design philosophy level. In the book XiCiShang , it says "Yi You Tai Ji, Shi Sheng Liang Yi,Liang Yi Sheng Si Xiang, Si Xiang Sheng Ba Gua, Ba Gua Ding Ji Xiong, Ji Xiong Sheng Da Ye". This is a concept of viewing the situation as a whole. It gives full expression to "theory that man is an integral part of nature" and "theory that man should live with nature in a harmonious way". Thanks to the guide of this, Chinese ancient artists and artisans have made brilliant achievements. However, westerners do well on natural science and society science areas; it provides many methods for designers in solving complex designing problems. This paper is definitely from this point of view to discuss the significance of design methodology about "the concept of viewing the situation as a whole" in complicated design area.There are four chapters in this paper. The first chapter is introduction, and it emphases in introducing the basses of choosing this project together with the present research situation. The second chapter expounds the form of the concept of viewing the situation as a whole. The third chapter is the major content of the paper, and proves mainly this concept of "the concept of viewing the situation as a whole" as a design methodology from six aspects. The last chapters take Olympic Games in Beijing as an example, to verify the practice meaning of this concept.The purpose of this paper hopes that this theory can guide designers to search for a better point of departure and distinctive angle of view, and all the designers should remember that imitation is suicide, trust yourself and transcend yourself.
