When the human beings come into the era of urbanization, city has become a more and more significant theme in literature. Shanghai which is a the earlist and the most developed city of urbanization in China, became the city written constantly. To the same Shanghai, different writers often have different aspects which they focus on and show different attitudes as well, thus they will shape one and the same city into different literature images of Shanghai.In the 1920's or 1930's, it is the modern modernized gold period for development of city of Shanghai, attract many groups of writers to carry on the literary creation about Shanghai. The early Haipai's literature represented by Liu Na'ou , Mu ShiYing and literature of left-wing city represented by Mao Dun, through to the imitating of the respect, such as style and features of life, cultural landscape, humane psychology of city, social contradiction in the modernized course of Shanghai,etc., so as to form about the moulding of Shanghai image in " the city in literature ". Separately studies three different images of Shanghai in thesis. Chapter 1 discusses Shanghai image of the desire in the early Hai's. The writers try to pass the international style of convergence America and Europe on the material and culture in Shanghai in the early Hai's , to display the world meaning of the consuming aspect in Shanghai. Chapter 2 and chapter 3 expound the fact build Shanghai image in works of left-wing writer represented by Mao Dun. Display the abundant and capitalist speciality in Shanghai from the economic , political aspect, and the imagination about " revolution " city which it cause as a colony city. The conclusion points out the complicated reasons of the image of Shanghai in literature, culture pluralism and open characteristic of Shanghai have determined the pluralism of Shanghai, Shanghai is untold.
