Abstract/Summary:
Cultural difference plays an important role in showing the connotative meaning between Chinese words and English words. Thus, much attention should be paid to analyzing the difference and exploring the reasons for this. The paper illustrates the importance of cultural connotations in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.The thesis takes 21 verbs from the chi and he group in"The Outline of HSK Vocabulary and Characters"and the relevant English verbs as the research objects. Guided by the theories of cultural linguistics and second language teaching and based on the present basis of research achievements, trying to compare and research the cultural difference of the chi and he group verbs between Chinese words and English words as well as the forming reasons.The thesis surveys the conceptual meaning and cultural meaning of these 21 verbs from the chi and he group, focusing on studying cultural connotations and comparing cultural difference between Chinese verbs and English verbs. Then, the thesis explores the reasons of different connotative meanings of these verbs which are due to mainly from the perspectives of different natural environment, mode of thinking and values as well as customs.
