Sino-US relations have achieved a great historical achievement in the field of economic and trade cooperation, the political mechanisms of communication and international cooperation since 1979. However, the development of Sino-US relations is not easy.As the two countries have a lot of differences in ideology, geopolitical development strategy, politics and culture, and as the growing internationalization of the Taiwan issue,China and America have little confidence in the area of military affairs, strategic security, non-traditional security issues. Such mistrust can cause great damage to the bilateral relations by the stimulation of accidental factors, such as the 1995 Taiwan Strait crisis. This situation has affected the deepening process of the bilateral relations and has an adverse impact in the strategic stability between the two countries. As the world's most important bilateral relationships in the world, Sino-US relations play a very important role in the stability and development of the two countries and the international community. Both countries have recognized that the strengthening of strategic mutual confidence is crucial to the stability and development of bilateral relations and they all take active measures to shrengthen it.This thesis is divided into five parts:Part I: An overview of the research in trust in international relations theory, the practice of confidence-building measures in international community, analysis the meaning of the "strategic mutual confidence",China and his neighboring countries'successful practice on the establishment of strategic mutual confidence.Part II: Through the "stable but not fixed" phenomenon in the development of Sino-US relations, pointing out that the lack of strategic mutual confidence has been a fundamental constraint to the development of Sino-US relations. This part discusses the performance of the lack of strategic mutual confidence in Sino-US relations in all aspects.Part III: This part analysis the reason why China and US have little strategic mutual confidence. The main reasons conclude historical reasons, ideological factors, the clash of civilizations, hegemony-cycle theory and the Taiwan issue.Part IV: Explore effective measures to promote Sino-US strategic mutual confidence. First, from the cognitive level, mutual understanding of this phenomenon is vital. Avoiding each other's strategic misjudgment and the correct positioning of bilateral relations are also important. "Harmonious world" theory should be the basis for the development of Sino-US relations. Secondly, in practice, we should broaden and deepen the level of bilateral cooperation, improve communication and cooperation mechanisms between the two countries to enhance strategic mutual confidence.Part V: Conclusion. The author believes that the strategic mutual confidence between China and America is achievable, but we need to recognize that it's a long and difficult process.
