There are six basic elements in tourism, including travel,accommodation, sightseeing, catering, entertainment and shopping. Travel is of thefirst importance. Since 'travel', in a broad sense, includes three parts f transport mode,destination and route, the overseas tourists' preferences for travel can be regarded astheir preferences for transportation, destination and itineraryThis study is a part of the study of tourist behavior, which is the weakest point inChina's tourism research. On the base of the item of National Natural Science Fundnamed 'Research on Inbound Tourist Flow of China', this paper makes an overall andmeticulous study on the overseas tourists' preferences for transportation, destinationand itinerary.The paper consists of six chapters.Chapter l introduces some background knowledge, including the development oftourism both in China and worldwide, and the current situation of tourism research.Finally, it points out the significance of the paper.Chapter 2 concludes the behavior mode of a tourist and explains the factorswhich affect tourists' choices. Then it analyses the different tourism behavior in termsof age, gender, profession, residence and tourism motive.Chapter 3 analyses the features of the overseas tourism market, from theperspective of geography identity age, gender, profession and tourism motive.Chapter 4 is the crucial part of the paper, discussing overseas tourists' choicesand preferences for transportation, destination and itinerary respectivelyChapter 5 evaluates the service of transportation, shows the problem existing init and then measures are put forward to improve transportation service.Chapter 6 summarizes the main points of the paper.
