China joined the World Trade Organization in Dec.l 1, 2001 by efforts as long as 13 years. After China's entry into WTO, the opportunities and challenges that it brings to all kinds of sectors and enterprises have become the focus that is constantly being discussed. And textile industry is unanimously regarded as the sector that can benefit most. What kind of opportunities and challenges will be faced by the state-owned textile enterprises that are the pillar of the textile industry and the strategies that should be adopted are the subjects deeply studied.First, this paper pointed out the strategic status that the state-owned textile enterprises have in the National Economy. As the breakthrough point of the China' state-owned enterprises' reforming, textile industry has made great achievements in the past three years. The paper summarizes the achievements in detail. While emphasizing the achievements, the paper fingers out the problems that still exit in the state-owned textile enterprises and some ideas induced by them.Second, the opportunities and challenges that WTO brings to the state-owned enterprises are analyzed. From tariffs, free trade and arbitration points of view, the paper analyzes the benefit that WTO has on the state-owed textile enterprises. Meanwhile, from exporting barriers, severe competitions and open market points of view, the challenges that will be encountered are offered.The last but the most important part of the paper puts forward the strategies that should be adopted by the state-owned textile enterprises to meet the challenges from WTO. The followings are concluded: To deepen the system reforming is the prerequisite and the base of strengthening the competitiveness of the state-owned textile enterprises. To make effort to approach the marketing economy is required by entry into WTO for state-owned textile enterprises. To improve the core competitiveness is the way to meet global competition. To accelerate the steps of science and technology progress is the means to enhance the competitiveness of the state-owned textile enterprises. Also, the state-owned textile enterprises should attach great importance to the brand strategy.
