By means of constructing a scientific indicator system and some modes, reproducing a mock spatio-temporal evolvement of agricultural modernization as well as studying the interaction of different factors concerned, the evaluation of agricultural modernization functions to encourage a dynamic survey into regional agricultural modernization process and hence provides a practical foundation for governmental departments to modulate their policies. The thesis analyzes the connotation of agricultural modernization by comparing different modes of agricultural modernization home and abroad as well as comparing the traditional Chinese agriculture with the technology-fund intensive agriculture of developed countries. Agricultural modernization with Chinese characteristics is, in essence, modernization of equipment and management and the optimization of resources and environment. To be specific, modernization of farming industry involves its industrialization, its probability of market participation and its renewable potentiality. On the basis of both domestic and international research on the evaluation of rural modernization and socialization, the thesis identifies some flaws of the present methods of evaluating the domestic agricultural modernization: The scope of evaluation is yet to be enlarged; the index system can hardly achieve coordination of universal application and regional practice; the subjective considerations are striking with regard to the index system construction; the established mode and the criteria for evaluation are not sufficiently dynamic; the lagged research methods render the improvement for its accuracy and efficiency possible. Therefore, the thesis optimizes the present methods from different perspectives. The Relevant Approaches consist of employing Gray Relevant Analysis combined with Correlation Analysis, the Principle Components Analysis filtering the index in phase, and the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method supported by the Entropy Technique;weighting the indicators coefficient values in light of the results of the Principle Components Analysis; determining the (synthetic) developing (forecast) coefficient of respective indicators by using the Multi-Objective Fuzzy Synthetic Evaluation and Gray Relevant Analysis and hence establishing the Logistic ascending curve mode and the Gini Coefficient mode; furthermore, analyzing the mode mathematically to work out the evolutional traits of spatio-temporal sequence during the course of the moder- nization of regional agriculture; using the R-Cluster Analysis whose results simultaneously support the rationality of the established index system and the mode construction to deter- mine the evolutional traits of spatio-temporal sequence. The Liuyang county, a trial county in the research on the agricultural modernization of the Hunan province, is a typical case in point. The evolutional traits of the temporal sequence of its agricultural modernization can be concluded as the following: I) The process is progressing steadily and enormous- ly; II) The process as well as its developing rate varies largely at different stages; III) The indexes of different subjects exhibits a tendency towards imbalance. The evolutional traits of the spatial sequence of the process can be induced as the following: I) The tempo of modernization and the respective scores achieved by agricultural production, the economic development and social progress of rural regions, and the living standard of country people display a regional gradient: The western region demonstrates a greater tempo and higher scores; furthermore, the distributive pattern of a certain rural region presents a negative correlation between its developing rate and distance from its nuclear city. Regional distinctions are increasingly extraordinary with the years go on. II) The evolu- tional spatial sequence of the agricultural entironment shows polar opposite traits in contrast to the two subjects previously mentioned. Ill) The evolutional traits of the spatial sequence of comprehensive developing...
