MICE tourism, one of the hot tourism models, having great economic and social potentials and favorite development prospects, is called "gem on the imperial crown". Nowadays MICE is a tremendous industry in the world. It involved architecture,design, construction, logistics, communication, consultation, advertisement, food, shopping, travel and accommodation industries and etc. Production value of international exhibition industry takes 1 % of the total GDP world. If the gain from related industries is accounted, the contribution from MICE mounts to 8% of the global economy. According to ICCA, the production value of International Meeting, another tremendous industry, is 2800 billion dollar per year.So MICE tourism has become a hotspot of tourism development and tourism academic research. From the last decade,China's MICE tourism develops rapidly, with a high annual growth rate at 20%. Nationally speaking, MICE tourism in eastern areas of China is relatively advanced.At the same time, cities in western areas are taking their advantages to develop exhibition market by exploring tourism products. Given the rapid expansion of the domestic MICE tourism because of glorious prospect in practice and increasingly strong interests in theory , domestic government and academic field begins to focus their interest on the study of MICE tourism. But the status is not satisfactory:some fundamental ideas of MICE are blurry, the connection between MICE and tourism is still loosened, the distribution of some exhibition center are not reasonable ,and the efficiency of the market operation is low.The thesis selects Chengdu, one of the most potential cities in the development of MICE tourism among the Western Region, as the research objects to discuss the problems relative to MICE tourism. The thesis attempts to put forward some conductive suggestions for the development of Chengdu MICE tourism in practice. Chengdu is a national-level outstanding tourist city, after the first national sugar and wine fair hold in spring 1984 , the MICE industry of Chengdu develops rapidly ,and it has already held more than 170 nationwide or international large-scale exhibitions. But long time 's government-leading mode caused imperfect market mechanism , informal order of market operation, shortage for talents of MICE tourism, backward facilities,etc. All that hinder the development of convention and exhibition of Chengdu and Chengdu has not become the tour center of the western MICE tourism in the real meaning. This thesis exactly proceed with current situation and problems that the MICE tourism of Chengdu , in order to improve its influence power at home and abroad, finally put forward relevant measures and suggestions for its development. In pursuit of the aim, the thesis comprises two parts. One indicates detailed analysis of developing MICE tourism in Chengdu and concludes the mayor problems in the process of develpment. The other gives us the suggestions and solutions to the questions. The two parts both have three chapters. At first, it have a glance of present condition of MICE tourism at home and abroad and show us the reasons why we need to make study on this area. Then, the thesis perspectively illustrates Chengdu's advantages and disadvantages of MICE tourism development and put forwards the existent problems. The thesis make a study on brand of the MICE tourism in Chengdu and try to give a location to Chengdu. In the end, it puts forward some measure of improving backward facilities and software environment and training related professional. The study on MICE tourism is still deficient in foreign countries relatiove to its remarkable economic meaning.The first academicmonograph of MICE tourism theory turned up in 2003 in China. Rare theoretical research of MICE cause all sorts of obstacles and problems in MICE tourism delevopment. So it is greatly significant to make further study on MICE tourism,especially for the potential cities like Chengdu.
