Cognitive style, whose range of research is extensive with its the different research ranges putting forward different cognitive style theories, unifies the two realms of personality and cognition in the psychology that were split into pieces. In recent years the research of cognitive style is to analyze and study as a whole. As far as the different cognitive style theories are concerned, its immanent configurational characteristics have been analyzed and investigated: 1. Grigorenko andSternberg(1995) categorized the cognitive styles from three aspects--cognition, personality, activity. 2. The theory of mental self-government put forward by Sternberg. 3. Riding and other persons thought that the types of cognitive style had been summed up as coming under the two basic dimensionalities: Wholist - Analytic and Verbal - Imagery.Field-dependence - field-independence, studied most in all dimensionalities of cognitive style, almost constitutes the theory-frameof cognitive style. Field-dependence-field-independence, crossing theperception and expressing in the aspects of mental activity, such as the memory, thinking, affection, learning, problem-solving and social communication, etc. is a variable of process with the characteristics of catholicity, stability, expansibility, two-valued and neuter value, etc. On the formation and development of individual field-dependence -field-independence, its cognitive style clearly develops from the field-dependence to the field-independence. And it has the obvious individual differences in the development toward the field-independence, and the factors, such as family environment, social group construction, culture educating and gender role expecting, etc. clearly influence the development of cognitive style.In 1921, Allport put forward the concept and the theory of the personality trait. The theorists of personality trait think that there are individual differences in the continuous personality variable or personality type, that is the basic difference between persons is the contents rather than quality. An important problem of trait investigation is to investigate the content and quantity of the basic trait of which the personality is composed. The measure of personality trait is a kind of tool extensively used in current mental state. Of the correlation of cognitive style and personality trait, there are two kinds of different conclusions at home and abroad: One conclusion thinks that there is more correlation between them. Another conclusion thinks that there is no correlation between them. The results of the research of the domestic scholar almost support the latter, that is the cognitive style belongs to another personality type.Military academy students are organized in a special group, and the characteristics of their life are high concentrating leadership, strict management and team type. The strict military environment, especially the influence of the cognitive style of the leaders to the members and that of the work post, etc. will influence its members. The study, adopting the stratified random sampling and selecting 184 testees from the PLA Jinan Army Academy and the PLA Nanjing Political College, comprehensively tests experience and subject differences of field-dependence -field-independence, the characteristics of the military academy students'Cattell personality trait, and the correlation between field-dependence -field-independence and Cattell personality trait, etc. The study has filled up the blank of the domestic and related field.The study adopts EFT and 16PF as testing tools. Both of the questionnaires have higher reliability and validity.Integrating the results of statistic analysis, the study draws the following conclusions:1.The tendencies of different subjects have important influence on the formation of individual cognitive style of field-dependence -field-independence.2.
