With the course of urbanization, the immigrant workers have been becoming a particular social group with a large population and inimitable identity and social status. They have already been an indispensable group in city life. It is significant to pay attention to the group.Combined to current Chinese context, this study tried to discuss the immigrant workers' social identity threats and their strategies of response during the process of social identity. Through the qualitative research method, the author explored the different ways of immigrant workers to cope with the stress of environment and advocate their needs.This dissertation has sex parts. The first part is exordium, which introduces the background, objects, goals and meanings of the study. The second part is literature retrospect, which introduces the status quo of study about the immigrant workers and the developments of social identity theory from different aspects. The third part mainly refers to the research methods and the theory frame of reference. The fourth part analyzes the status quo of the immigrant workers' social identity. Then the following part parses their identity threats and strategies from four aspects of categorization threat, distinctiveness threat, threat to value and acceptance threat. The sixth part discusses several problems, such as how to perfect the correlative institution system in order to establish the advantaged social categories which are propitious to social amalgamation; and considering the suggestion how the social work chooses the social service. At last, it comes to the conclusion part.
