Cause Analysis Of Differences In Europe And America Since The End Of The Cold War

After the Cold War, as the disappearance of common enemy--the Soviet Union, the US-EU relationship changed from the staunch ally to continual disputes and conflicts. Now their contradictions have become the focus of international community. Especially after the Iraqi war, on their respective interests in Middle East, the United States and EU, typically Britain, France and Germany, showed great differences, and relations between the two sides once fell to a low point. With the Iranian nuclear issue, one of the international hot spots, the two sides dealt differently once again.This paper firstly sorts out the development of the U.S.-EU relation after the Cold War, summing up current US-EU conflicts on security, economy, foreign policy and other areas. On this basis, the paper analyzes the reasons from four perspectives: international political ideas, role cognition, power competition and strategic aspirations and behavior. Then, from case study of Iran nuclear issue, the paper discusses what the differences are and why the differences happen between the two sides; finally, how the way resolving the Iran nuclear issue will influence the US- EU relation, and where the US-EU relation will go in the future.In fact, US-EU differences on the Iranian nuclear issue reflect the inconsistency on geo-stratagem and international order, terrorism and other issues in a long time. The goal of the United States has always been a global hegemony, while the Europe Union expects to see a multi-polar world. As the deepening of EU integration and the changing of international situation, the US-EU relation will be more equal and more competitive.
