Since 1990s, China's progress of modernization has been speeding up. Under the background of society transition, the economy and society development imbalance between urban and rural areas has more and more widened the gap between urban and rural areas. In order to increase income and create a better material environment for their offspring, numerous rural surplus labors migrate into cities searching for work. However limited by their education background and policies like "hukou", they have no choice but to do the so-called dirty, messy and low-level work. As a result, their humble income cannot afford a better life in the city for their children and they have to have their children "left-behind" home in the countryside.Compared with its advantages, cross-generation family education's disadvantages seem to be more. Limit of individual caliber and busy for farm work makes grandparents just mainly care about children's physical health while inevitably neglect other issues such as children's mental health, course study, safety and values. The defects of cross-generation family education thus lead to various problems impacting on children's mental and physical development such as tiredness of study or lack of study consciousness, formation of bad character such as inferiority complex and withdrawal, lack of safety protection, values deviation as well as parent-child estrangement. Therefore, it's significant to study cross-generation family education for left-behind children in rural areas.Guided by principle of combing theory and practice as well as using methods of literature synthesis and case studies, this thesis studies in-depth the cross-generation family education for left-behind children in rural areas. This thesis argues that the issue of cross-generation education for left-behind children in rural areas relates to grandparents as well as parents migrating into cities in search of work, the school and the government, thus the solution lies in the coordination of the family, the school and the government.First, parent should employ various methods to enhance communication with children, while the grandparents need to improve their individual caliber to create a good family culture. Second, schools need to change their education concept, enriching the children's after-school life, paying close attention both to children's course study and to their mental health as well as establishing the communication platform between the school and the family. Last but not the least, the government should take her responsibility to this issue, striving to eventually cancel the urban-rural dual structure, reforming the system causing the imbalance of financial input, social security and employment between urban and rural areas, as well as strengthening supervision on unhealthy culture. Besides, it essentially significant to develop rural economy and increase peasants' income, preventing the problems related to left-behind children from arising. In brief, the relevant parts should pay more attention on the issue of cross-generation education for left-behind children in rural areas and undertake and eventually improve countermeasures to safeguarding the healthy growth of the children.
