A field of network public opinion was formed rapidly with the fast development of cyber media. It has been playing a more and more important part to the process of society construction. With this background, a study of the government image in the field of online public opinion is becoming a pressing topic.This article takes the south China tiger, which have had such great impact on the internet, as an example to analyze the characteristics of the online public opinion and the specific ways online media impacts the government image. Some other events which had absorbed much attention from the public were also used in this passage. It aims to investigate the both the opportunities and the challenges that the government is facing to build its image in this brand new field. It is hoped that by doing this we can uncover some strategies as to how to make use of online media in order for the government building a good image.Data study, case study and historical study are used in this article to give a delicate analysis of the Chinese government in the field of internet public opinion. Case study was firstly used in studying the formation and characteristics of online public opinion fields, online events as the illustration. Next, combining these events with public opinion, data study discusses the active impacts and new challenges that the online field has had on the government image. The final part of the article mainly deals with what kind of measure should the government take and what principles should government follow in this field. Then come to the conclusion:faced with the field of online public opinion, the government should on the one hand make full use of the favorable impact to establish a good image and build a harmonious society. On the other hand, the government should create and improve the guiding mechanism to the public opinion and a communication mechanism to all sorts of media. It should strengthen the public relations consciousness and provide training to civil servants so that they are more capable to deal with crisis and know more about politics. Besides, it should carry out the principle of following the will of the people, respect their right to know and their right to participate, treat the online opinion with a people-oriented way or attitude.
