Textbook as the materializing stuff is very important to convey the knowledge,socialize the individual and develop students.Currently our textbooks development competence is low,therefore it is very essential to analyze the foreign outstanding textbook to absorb and learn from their experiences and practices. The thesis choose mainstream science textbook of America——Chemistry concepts and Applications to analyze. By analyzing the compilation character of the textbook, we hope to provide enlightenments to chemistry textbook development. The research focuses on five aspects.Part I shows clearly the reason and significance of selecting this topic. It is very necessary to choose American mainstream science textbook to do analyses and researches. This research aims to advance the reform of chemistry textbooks of high school in our country. At the same time, it shows the significance of the thesis.Part II reveals state of the field and theoretical foundation in teaching materials analysing. Firstly, it provide reviews about teaching materials analysing of domestic researches and clear the current progress of the research. Secondly, in connection with practice of teaching materials of domestic researches, the thesis studies model analysis of teaching materials to determine the ideas of this research. On that basis model analysis of teaching materials of the thesis itself is constructed. The model includes seven parts, they are: background of textbook's arising, basis of textbook development, purpose of development, content selection , content organization, content, presentation and textbook's feature.Part III puts forward the purpose, task and methods of the study.Part IV is main content of the thesis which includes two parts. The first part describes background of textbook's arising, basis of textbook development, purpose of development. The second part expounds the content of the textbook from the content selection, organization and presentation. In part of content selection,it presents from five aspects: the theoretical knowledge, knowledge of elements and compounds, knowledge of the history of science, STS knowledge, and knowledge of skills. After that, it summarizes the character of content selection. In part of content organization, the thesis analyses the architecture and writing style of textbook. In part of presentation of textbook, according to the new philosophy, the thesis contrasts presentation of textbook to conclude whether textbook can accommodate to the new philosophy. Finally, it summarizes the character of textbook compilation and points out that the textbook is a subject-centered textbook in content selection and content organization but a student-and-society-centered textbook in presentation.Part V summarizes the characters of the textbook on the basis of analysis. The textbook focuses on training students' scientific literacy, on promoting students' understanding of knowledge, and on developing students' consciousness for development. Finally, according to the reality of China, the thesis puts forward suggestions on the compilation of high school chemistry textbook.
