Aesthetic education is an integral part of quality education and Chinese teaching in high schools plays a vital role in aesthetic education in the period of fundamental education. However, teaching for examination and utility is still a distinctive feature in todays Chinese teaching. The teaching of informal essay writing has always been subordinate to that of writing essays for exams. The more far-reaching value of aesthetic education in informal essay writing teaching is ignored. Throughout studies of aesthetic education in Chinese teaching, aesthetic education in informal essay writing teaching in high school is hardly involved. This thesis is based on the understanding of the present state of informal essay writing teaching in ordinary high schools and the study of related theories both at home and abroad. Combining her eight years'teaching experience in this area, from both the theoretical and practical aspects, the author gives thought to the significance of the penetration of aesthetic education in informal essay writing teaching, including its positive effect on helping students experience and appreciate their life and developing their writing competence, and its deep impact on improving students'taste of beauty and helping them develop fine personalities, hoping to provide some inspiration for fellow teachers to understand and practice aesthetic education in informal essay writing teaching.The thesis focuses on the following parts. Firstly, through an analysis of social backgrounds and the mentality of senior students, considering the demands of quality education, especially those of aesthetic education in the reform of new curriculum, the author brings forward the idea that aesthetic education should be penetrated in teaching informal essay writing in high school. Secondly, through an illustration of related theories both at home and abroad and the present situation of research into aesthetic education in Chinese teaching and informal essay writing teaching, the author puts forward the research topic of the thesis. Then, based on an analysis of multiple aesthetic factors in informal essay writing teaching, the author sets goals for the penetration of aesthetic education in teaching informal essay writing and suggests related strategies. Next, by means of comparative study, case study and narrative research method, the author tests and proves the efficiency of the strategies for the penetration of aesthetic education in teaching informal essay writing. Finally, the author summarizes the result of her study, points out its drawbacks and expresses her hope for further study of this research topic.
