Concerned as a kind of economic activity in the field of education, work-study program serves as a key role to the success of a full implement of quality education and a continual enhancement in moral and political education. It plays an important part during the growth of university graduates basing on the belief that education should be incorporated with efficient practice in the society. Work-study program, for example, helps those students struggling from poverty to lessen their pressure in life so that they can sail smoothly through their university voyage; it also helps to cultivate among the students a kind of spirit known as self-independence and hard-working; it specially enables students to get acquainted with this society in an active pace, in which they can forge themselves and get themselves ready for future challenges; it even makes it possible for the students to practice what they have learned in class in a bigger class called society, where knowledge can be reviewed and ideas be provoked. What is more, work-study program proves its advantage in encouraging students to learn to develop a kind of multi-capability in solving problems as happen always in different fields such as management and organization, independent living, financial handling, public relations, self-planning and adjustment as well as innovation.With the common effort from Educational department, central league committee and multiple groups of the society, we have achieved an obvious success in the work-study program nowadays in China. Subject also to different subjective and objective conditions, there are some problems existing, which can be shown sometimes in the lack of due attention paid by certain colleges or universities to the work-study program. They regard this program only as a kind of renovation step to financially assist the impoverished students rather than a new educational system to cultivate people. Without proper attention, they establish no special authority bureau for the program which directly causes unsustainable working procedures and careless managing approach. Last but not least, we have also witnessed a shortage in knowledge and technology based positions set up in work-study program.Basing on real practice nowadays in China and introducing successful experience from abroad, this article tries to provide a few pieces of mind in optimizing the work-study program as follows:first, open up the mind both from colleges and students to fully realize the dual function played by work-study program; Secondly, enlarge the range of choices for work-study program in the following aspects: introduce more knowledge based than labor based positions, more outer in the society than inner within colleges positions; more team working than individual and self-relied positions; more multi-funded than single financed patterns in terms of monetary foundation; more marketing oriented and self-sufficient than unique sponsorship backup; thirdly, establish a routine work-study procedure, facilitate an independent authority committee, well arrange the financial backup, set up an efficient work-study management team, provide with a reliable and strong logistic support and create proper enhancement and encouragement schemes; fourth, renovate the management pattern in work-study program nowadays by introducing a kind of balance-credit card system aiming at establishing a instructive and continual evaluation system.
