A Survey On The Status Quo Of Junior Middle School English Teachers' Discipline Teaching Knowledge (PCK) And Its Strategy

Pedagogical Content Knowledge (short for PCK) is a kind of experienceknowledge, which is requisite for effective teaching. As the core and soul of theteachers`professional knowledge, it provides a "new perspective" for disciplineteaching research. In recent years, both domestic and foreign scholars are inclined tolink PCK with the specific subject teaching. Among the combined researches,mathematical teachers`researches are relatively abundant. On the contrary, the studieswhich combined PCK with English are quite few. Based on this, the paper discussedjunior middle school English teachers`PCK through using empirical measurement.The paper studied the current situation of junior middle school English teachers`PCK in employing literature methed,questionnaire and interview. Based on theliterature analysis, the definition and core elements of PCK would be explored; basedon the definition and elements of PCK, the author tried to design the questionnaireand then obtained the problems in current situation of PCK. Finally, the interviewwould be projected to probe the underlying reasons of problems. Thus, this integratedpaper was established to explore effective strategies for improving PCK.Research findings: the overall junior middle school English teachers`PCK wasgrasped well; among them, the knowledge about the students was mastered best, theknowledge about English teaching aims was mastered worst and the remaining threekinds of knowledge about PCK was mastered in gereneral condation. From results, wecould draw the conclusion that the knowledge about teaching aims had more problems.Therefore, the promotion strategies which were concluded from junior middleschools、teachers themselves and training would truly improve the junior middleschool English teachers`PCK...
