Abstract:To explore the influence of Tai Chi exercise on attention stability and sleep in this study, which tested120attendants from a large restaurant chain through experimentation, and they were required to do Tai Chi exercise. All subjects were assigned randomly to experimental group (Eg), control group (CKg) and placebo-treated group (PTg) with the following3different methods:the subjects of experimental group did Tai Chi exercise at least3times (1hour each time) a week during the3months; while the subjects form control group were treated as blank control without any intervention; the subjects in group of placebo-treated were required to do setting-up exercise as long as the subjects from experimental group to avoid the "Hawthorne effect" and to enhance the internal validity. The measurement methods for attention stability and sleeping quality are Random Number Cancellation Test (RNCT) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Table (PSQI) respectively. The results of this study shows as follows:After3months of Tai Chi exercise,(1)the attention stability index of subjects has an extremely significant difference between Eg and CKg (P<0.01), PTg and Eg is the next (P<0.05), while there is little obvious difference between CKg and PTg (P>0.05). These indicate that doing Tai Chi exercise has a great motivation in improving and increasing attention stability.(2) When testing sleep of subjects from each groups after3months treatment, there has a highly significant difference between Eg and CKg (P<0.01), non-significant difference between CKg and PTg (P>0.05) and generally significant difference between PTg and Eg (P<0.05)respectively. The analytical results reveal that doing Tai Chi exercise can also improve human sleep quality.(3) In addition, there is a difference (P<0.05) between different genders with their attention stability that is to say the increasing degree of attention stability of male to doing Tai Chi exercise is superior to female. From the above results, the study shows that:First, doing Tai Chi exercise can increase people’s attention stability visibly; Secondly, it also has a great influence of doing Tai Chi exercise in human sleep.
