This paper mainly discusses the curriculumof pre-service teacher education in TeachersCollege of Columbia University and Michael D. Eisner College of Education ofCaliforniaStateUniversity, Northridge. After studying of the two colleges, we summarize somefeatures of the curriculum of pre-service teacher education in America, such as the inclusiveteaching curriculum, the diversity of general education curriculum and the practice-orientedteaching practice and internship programs and so on. The author further conducts acomprehensive analysis of the features summarized above. First, the curriculum in Americareflects Constructivist and Pragmatist philosophy. Second, the curriculum in Americademonstrates Individualist and Egalitarianist cultural tradition. Third, through the angle of therelationships between curriculum and educational reform, the curriculum in America reveals ademand on reflective thinking and technology. Fourth, the curriculum set up a new standard withrespect to teachers’ knowledge, which expects teachers to have both theoretical knowledge andpractical knowledge, and have expertise on a certain area with a broad knowledge foundation. Atthe end of this paper, the author provides several implications to Chinese pre-service teachereducation.(1) Provide more general courses facilitated students’ learning.(2) Change theproportion of the different types of courses such as major courses and general courses.(3) Givelonger time for school observation and practice.(4) Ask students to have an Egalitarianist pointof view on education.This paper is divided into five parts. The first part introduces the reasons for writing thispaper, the significance of this study, the researching methods, the definition of key concepts, andthe summary study of the research. The second part describes the development of the history ofthe curriculum of pre-service teacher education in America, which has gone through three stages.The third part shows us specific contents and programs of the curriculum of pre-service teachereducation in Teachers College of Columbia University, and at the end of this part, we summarizeits features. The structure of the fourth part is just like the third part. It shows us specific contentsand programs of the curriculum of pre-service teacher education in Michael D. Eisner College ofEducation of CaliforniaStateUniversity, Northridge, and at the end of this part, we summarize itsfeatures. The fifth part is a comprehensive analysis of the America elementary school curriculum.The last and the sixth part is the implication to the curriculum ofChinese pre-service teachers’education.
