In senior high school, Chinese Reading assignments play an important role in Chinese Reading learning. According to the requirements of Chinese Reading and the guidance on Chinese Reading assignments both advocated by "Ordinary High School Chinese Curriculum Standards (the experimental version)", we can draw the conclusion that students should play the major part when it comes to undertake Chinese reading assignments, while teachers should perform the role of designers and guiders. So Chinese Reading assignments should be designed specially for students. Reasonable and scientific design on homework would be the first requirement. Various forms of assignments and qualified evaluation are also necessary and favorable.After doing careful research on the present situation of Chinese Reading assignments, the author find that high school teachers and students make little use of the assignments system on Chinese textbooks which is obsolete in content, poor in variety and lack in quantity control as well as creativity. The main reasons lie in the fact that the assignments system on Chinese textbooks used by those respondents are turgid which is caused by careless thinking and benefits pursuing mentality of its designers.To solve this problem, this article offers some suggestions which can be listed as follows. Firstly, basic knowledge should always be valued and meanwhile students should learn to develop the habit of acquiring and accumulating what they have learned. The reading assignments should be designed ranging from class learning to self-learning after school, following a reasonable arrangement. Moreover, the reading assignments should contribute to the overall development of students and offering assignments designed with different levels would be a good way. Most importantly, the assignments should de designed with a brave attempt to create various forms so that it can make up its original deficiencies. In a word, students must be directed to master the method of Chinese reading and they should always take the text as the key point and focus on the content, characteristics as well as the values and emotions of the textbooks. By a good command of the knowledge and skills, students will be able to draw inferences about other cases from one instance in their practical leadings.
