Chinese Reading is an important part of Chinese teaching materials for high schools in Jiangsu Province. The required materials, optional materials and Chinese Reading together constitutes a complete system of Chinese teaching materials. As an essential role in Chinese teaching activity, Chinese Reading has various literary works, rich content, clear notes and is highly correspondent with the required materials. But for a long time, due to various subjective and objective factors, Chinese Reading has not been paid enough attention to. With the rapid develoement of Chinese curriculum reform, how to make a good use of Chinese reading and other teaching resources to improve students’Chinese learning and language performance has once again become a hot issue among many educators. More and more scholars and teachers start to conduct a comprehensive study from both theory and practice of Chinese reading Considering present situation, this article intends to start with the introduction of Chinese reading by talking about its writing purpose, development and main contents. Through analyzing the relationship between the required materials, optional materials and Chinese Reading, this paper intends to point out the ideal relationship and the undesiralbe one in present situarion. Then the author will analyse the literary value of the book through some specific chapters or tables from the contents. Meanwhile, through interviewing some teachers and students and gathering their personal opinion about Chinese Reading, the author can analyze the data and the possible reasons which lead to this situration. At last the author wil talk something about the simple strategy of exploiting and applying Chinese Reading. In this part, the author will write from two aspects which respectively is "how to write" and "how to use". In the former part, the author see the problem both as a teacher and a student respectively and try to obtain a more comprehensive and reasonable answer. In the opinion of the author, this article has some innovation points. Firstly, the author analyses the relationship among the required materials, optional materials and Chinese Reading, pointing out the three form a complete system. Secondly, the author uses questionnaires and interviews to access teachers’ and students’ perceptions of the books to gather a considerable number of reliable data. Thirdly, the author views the problem from the a relatively comprehensive angle, talking about the Chinese Reading especially on its "coding" and "using" from the perspective of "teachers" and "students".The conclusions is more comprehensive than other. The main purpose of this paper is to help people get a correct understanding of the "existing significance and value of Chinese reading in order to inspire people to explore the correct way to write and use this book.
