| It is essential for the reform of the basic education system to improve theteachers quality and it is essential for the improvement of teachers quality to motivate theteachers. A good motivation system can help inspire the teachers greatly and thus facilitatethe management of the schools, and ultimately enhance the development of the basiceducation. Therefore it is very important for the different parties involved in basic educationto study how to motivate the teachers.Based on the content theories and behavioral theories of motivation, this study focuseson the motivation system in secondary schools in Dalian. A survey and focus groupinterviews are conducted in this study to get information and statistics about the motivationsystem in these schools from the perspective of salary, quality of schools, careerdevelopment, sense of fulfillment, individual interests, etc.It is indicated in this study that there are some problems in the motivation system inthese schools such as inefficient incentive pay system and performance appraisal system,poor targeting policy in motivation design and mechanism.Based on a detailed analysis of the problems mentioned above, the author suggests thata more effective motivation system including both external incentive and internal incentiveshould be constructed.Findings from this study are expected to provide different levels of educational partiesinvolved in basic education with information about how to inspire the teachers moreeffectively, to facilitate the management of the schools and ultimately enhance thedevelopment of the basic education. |
