Since2004, the first Confucius institute was founded, with the growinginfluence of China all over the world,by the end of2013, in close cooperation andefforts between China and the other country, the world have established440Confucius institutes and440Confucius classrooms, distributed in120countries(regions), a total amount of more than850000students who came from differentcountries have registered.As an Educational and cultural organizations,whosetask is not only the promotion of Chinese language and the spread of the Chineseculture, the main task of the Confucius institutes is to teach Chinese,but the endpurpose is through the learning of Chinese, surmount the language obstacle, makethe world have more vivid feelings of the Chinese culture,to know China, so as tostrengthen the education and cultural exchanges and cooperation with thecountries all over the world.Chinese martial arts, as one of Chinese traditional culture, she has aprofound cultural background and distinctive characteristics of Oriental sportsstyle,coupled with the Kung fu movie star effect, makes Chinese martial arts ispopular among foreign students.However, due to externalconditions(race,language,districts and customs,culture,etc.)and internalconditions(teachers,teaching materials,site, etc.),makes the teaching and thespread of martial arts is difficult to carry out in foreign countries. In addition toteach Chinese,Confucius institute also pay attention to the spread of Chineseculture, Confucius institute can also be considered as an important place ofmany Chinese fans gathering.So the Chinese martial arts should make full use ofthe Confucius institute platform, to promote and spread, at the same time, in the process of spread martial arts,it can also promote the learning of Chinese, so inthe Confucius institute set up martial arts course is easy but no harm.After a year of martial arts teaching in the Confucius institute ofBotswana,the author carried on the investigation and study of martial artsteaching situation in the Confucius institute of Botswana, found that the situationis not optimistic.According to the above situation, this article attempts study from theConfucius institute teaching characteristics, teaching time, teaching structure andcharacteristics of students and so on, this article focuses on exploration of martialarts teaching in the Confucius institute and the effect in the spread of Chineseculture, the existence question and so on.And also attempt to redefining the roleof the Chinese martial arts in the cultural communication of Confucius institute,establishing a complete operating system and development plan, make theConfucius institute is no longer an institute which just focus on teaching Chinese,but also promotion of Chinese excellent culture.This research mainly adopts questionnaire survey, respectively to thevolunteer of the other country, the representative of the Confucius instituteteacher, adult learners of martial arts, primary and secondary school students, andoverseas Chinese teenagers, the questionnaire mainly want to understand therespondents understanding of martial arts, learning situation, existing problemsand improving methods in learning, etc. To summarize the information, find outthe key problems existing in the teaching and the solutions, so as to make themartial arts course can effectively carry out for a long time in the Confuciusinstitute.Conclusion:1.Although Martial arts in the Confucius institute at the university ofBotswana has just begin, the leadership of Confucius institute and Shanghainormal university sports institute paid more attention on it and make it more and more popular.2.Botswana Confucius institute is still lacked of teacher, and part of theChinese martial arts club time class is conflict with Chinese class, can’t meet theneeds of the rest of the martial arts enthusiasts, make many students missedthe opportunity of learning martial arts.3.Botswana Confucius institute martial arts is not yet mature, there is stillexist many problems like no stable place, lacked of equipments, no fixed teachersand a series of problems.4.The transmission way of Martial arts is still single, ignoring the martialarts culture, the language barrier, no fixed form and so on。5.The enthusiasm of students to learn martial arts is high, but due to theparticularity of the Confucius institute institutions, student age unevenly, soteachers still have a problem in project selection.6.Confucius institute still need to solve problems such as lacking of teachers,teaching plan, teaching resources (books, video, and equipment) and so on.
