A Research On The Development And Countermeasures Of Martial Arts In The Confucius Institutes In Seoul Economic Circle

In this paper, the development of martial arts in four Confucius Institutes and one Confucius Classroom and the overall situation of the development of martial arts in Seoul Economic Circle will be analyzed with literature, questionnaire survey, interview and mathematical statistics. Main problems in the teaching process of martial arts and the countermeasures will be discussed in order to explore an appropriate way for communication and transmission.Research results are as follows:three out of the five Confucius Institutes (Classrooms) in Seoul Economic Circle carry out activities, classes or special lectures of martial arts. The content of the courses is mainly Taichi, while the Confucius Classroom of Taesung Middle and High School (Chinese Language Institute) carries out successful martial arts classes with a rich content including Taichi, Changquan, cudgel, sword and Taichi Ball, etc. The major form of martial arts courses is class teaching. The learners include college students, high school students, junior middle school students and community residents. The faculty is in severe lack. Only Chinese Language Institute has professional martial arts teachers. All the other Confucius Classrooms are engaging martial arts professionals from China to do temporary teaching and performances. The shortage of equipments, costumes, books, discs and professional martial arts teachers and the uncertainty of teaching content and teaching materials become a limiting factor of the further development of martial arts in the Confucius Institutes in Seoul Economic Circle.After the research, countermeasures for the development of the martial arts in the Confucius Institutes in Seoul Economic Circle are as follows:The Confucius Institutes and the Martial Arts Administration Centre are supposed to provide full support to guarantee the martial arts’transmission. Be clear of the direction and purpose of the spread of martial arts in the Confucius Institutes in Seoul Economic Circle. To develop a standard. To increase publicity of martial arts. To develop appropriate teaching content and teaching materials for different learning groups. To make clear the matters needing attention in teaching martial arts in Taesung Middle and High School. To improve the training of volunteers and reserve personnel. And to unify martial arts costumes in order to highlight the characteristics of traditional Chinese martial arts.
