A Study On The Current Situation Of Scientific Research Reward In Chinese Universities

The Scientific Research Award Policy is an incentive generally implemented by Chinese universities, reasonable and appropriate incentives play a good promoting role in increasing university research, extension of the school’s reputation, and academics personal motivation.However, excessive excitation, improper incentives will cause a series of negative effects. At present, The Scientific Research Award Policy in our university, has a detailed division provisions in type, level, amount to facilitate the management of the implementation.This paper, attempting to analysis and research on present situation of China’s Scientific Research Award Policy, show its basic characteristics, and provide reference and refinement for further improvement of university research incentives.The study is divided into five parts, the first part is an introduction, mainly raising questions, explained the significance of the research, and reviewed literature related to scientific awards, based on which, a few basic concepts defined, the main methods used in this study is introduced.The first chapter describes the related theory of scientific awards. Research Award is an indispensable part of research activities. This chapter explores the meaning of research awards from three perspectives such as sociology, psychology and economics, thus get awareness and understanding on essence and function of research incentives at the macro.To have a overall understanding, the second chapter describes the type, level and award amount of university’s research award policy with system analysis, with the financial rewards for scientific work such as national, ministerial awards for research findings, paper, research projects,patents as concrete target, shows the present feature of Chinese universities’scientific research award policy in detail.Based on the holistic approach of the award policy, the third chapter makes an analysis and a comparison of the amount of reward between different levels and areas of universities. Results show that, the huge differentia of the research award on each university, neither association nor evident regularity has with their levels or the areas that universities placed.The last part is a summary of the whole paper. By studying Scientific Research Award Policy of our universities implemented, the features that the diversity reward type, administrative reward mind, quantitative evaluation and repeating implement are exposed. For the mistakes of the Scientific Research Award Policy implemented, the influence and some suggestion are discussed.
