A Study On The Job Burnout Of Historical Teachers In Yangzhou Urban Middle Schools

After Freudenberger put out the concept, the research on job burnout has come into the field of pedagogy. Facing their students every day, teachers take more serious work stress when compared to other jobs. As a result, teacher has become a high-risk group for job burnout. During the past30years, the scholars from home and abroad have made adequate research on the job burnout of teacher, and some scholars have realized differences of burnout among jobs. It is a new trend to combine the theory of job burnout with subjects.Based on the study of the previous research on the teachers’job burnout, the author made a questionnaire according to Maslach Burnout Inventory for the teachers in the city of Yangzhou to investigate their major resources of their work stress and the degrees of their job burnout. Maslach Burnout Inventory is recognized as the most just scale. And also the most widely used across the world. The questionnaire based on Maslach Burnout Inventory is effective and reliable.110questionnaires were given in the districts and counties in Yangzhou, and104of them were response. According to the analysis on the questionnaires based on the perspectives of gender, marriage, age, teaching experience and the type of the school they work in, the author get the following consequences:(1) job burnout is a common phenomenon during the history teacher in middle school from the city of Yangzhou;(2) the female teacher got higher scores than the male teacher in the three dimensions in the view of gender;(3)In the view of age, the scores of the history teachers from20years old to30years old are higher than2.5, suffering the most serious exhaustion, while the teachers who are more than50years old got the highest score in the dimension of the sense of low achievement. Generally, the age is related to exhaustion and the sense of lower achievements, but not related to depersonalization;(4)the teaching experience has a distinctive relationship to the exhaustion and lower sense of achievement;(5)the title and whether the teacher is a class teacher are related to the dimension of exhaustion;(6)the size of the class is related to the dimension of depersonalization. And the experience working in a graduation class has an effect on the sense of working achievements. As a supplement of the questionnaire, the author also made a face-to-face interview with the history teacher and listen to their hearts. Through the interviews, the author has realized deeply that the job burnout have a side effect on the teachers’work and life, and try to uncover the factors that resulted in job burnout. Combining the questionnaire and interviews, there is a conclusion that the reason leading to job burnout is not unique, and the factors have different effects on the three dimensions.Different demography variables have an effect on the degree on the teachers’job burnout. And the reasons leading to the job burnout of the history teacher in the city of Yangzhou are varied. The categories to prevent and release the teachers’ burnout should be putted out in the view of society, school and the teachers’personal factors.
