A Study On The Current Situation Of Tibetan Traditional Sports In Kangba Tibetan Area

This essay, with the Kham Middle Schools (KMSs) and Traditional Ethnic Sports (TESs) being the research subjects and background respectively, and by the method of literature, investigation and questionnaire, etc. makes an empirical study on the Tibetan Traditional Ethnic Sports (TTESs) in KMSs, its current situation in particular. Meanwhile, from the different perspectives such as sociology, anthropology, culturology, as well the science of religion and PE, this essay analyzes TTESs’evolution, cultural inheritance and the restraining factors. According to the empirical study, the essay finds that:the development of TTESs in KMSs is far behind the other minority areas in China, let alone other countries in the world; PE in KMSs does not contain TTESs; there are not enough opportunities for the Ss to get to know TTESs because of little recreational activities or extra-curricular activities; the Ss are short of consciousness in the importance of TTESs, identity of ethnic culture and cultural inheritance, etc. And based on these analyses, the restraining factors are discovered as the following:insufficient attention from the educational departments and school leaders; backwardness in social basis, sport yards, exercise equipment; insufficiency of PE teachers; under-relevance between PE and TTESs; low exercising consciousness and high study pressure from the Ss themseveles; inferior concept of cultural inheritance from KMSs and the parents, etc. Then, this essay puts forward some suggestions or countermeasures like these:as the second largest Tibetan areas in China, Kham gives the birth to all kinds of TESs in modern society; the local governmental departments should make full use of the policy of Western Development, adhere to developing the sports undertakings prescribed in the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", fully implement the "National Fitness Regulations" and "The National Fitness Program (2011-2015)"; vigorously develop TTESs by increasing special funds from the government, constructing more stadiums, establishing the consulting system, and perfecting the competition system; improve the public awareness of participation in order to lay a solid mass foundation; the leaders should attach more attention to TTESs, putting it into the curriculum of school physical education, recreational activities or extra-curricular activities, guaranteeing its existence in KMSs with system, norm, popularity and continuation; construct better campus environment for TTESs by training more qualified PE teachers and building more sports yards; make TTESs develop more healthily and vigorously by enhancing the education of ethnic culture, improving Ss’awareness of protection and heritance...etc. All in all, TTESs in KMSs can not only enrich the teaching content, cultural life of the campus, but also in a good way protect and inherit the ethnic culture.
