This article carry out a research on traditional sports in the ethnic middle school of Guizhou Gelao major areas by using literature material,questionnaire investigation,expert interview method,mathematicalstatis-tics and logic analysis.This article also carry out present situationinves-t igation researches of the traditional sports in the ethnic middle school of Guizhou Gelao major areas,such as Daozhen ethnic middle school,Wuchuan ethnic middle school,Shiqian ethnic middle school,Guanling ethn-ic middle school,Shizixiang and Yangchang ethnic middle school.The key findings are as follows:First,a few sports activities are conducted in the ethnic middle school--main areas of Gelao in Guizhou province,while the age,working times of the teachers and professional titles structure are reasonable,the youth teachers account for much in these schools,most majors of these teachers are basketball and track and field.No traditional ethnic P.E.teacher.Second,byinterviewing the experts,Daozhen ethnic middleschool,Wuchuan ethnic middle school,Shiqian ethnic middle school and Guan-ling ethnic middle school have arranged traditional ethnic sports of Gelao minority in the class,whereas Shizixiang and Yangchang ethnic middle school have not arrangedi traditional ethnic sports in the class.Traditional ethnic sports account for only 24% of all the sports in theprocess of sports teaching.In these ethnic middle schools,only half of them have books related to traditional sports of Gelao minority,so it is necessary to improve the sports fields and equipment.Third,in these investigated middle schools,a bout 67% of them have set up traditional ethnic sports team of Gelaominority including these middle schools in Daozhen,Wuchuan,Shiqian and Guanling.Wuchuan middle school not only has held field and track sport meeting but also the ethnic sport meeting.Forth,the students show much interests in traditional ethnic sports of Gelao minority,about 77% of the students like the traditional ethnic sports.In these students,about 50.7% of them like Tall bamboo dance and 33.6%of them like Bamboo stick dance.The students don't know much about the background of the sport activities.About 61.4% of them have never taken part in these sport activities and 38.6% of them seldom involved in these activities.Their motivations is clear,that is to build up their body,to entertainment,to promote the relationship,to enrich spare time and to inherit traditional culture.So far,these students are not satisfied with fields,equipment and traditional ethnic sports activities of Gelao minority set up in these middle schools.Fifth,P.E.teacher don't know much about the cultural background and forms of traditional sports.About 60% of P.E.teachers learn of the traditional sports activities from open class and high quality,they affirmthe functions of these sports activities and agree with setting up tradition-al ethnic sports activities.About 32% of these middle school leaders att-a ch important to traditional ethnic sports of Gelao minority.Sixth,the ethnic middle schools' fund is not enough by interviewing these leaders.Although the local government have given aid to ethnic aeras,its development are limited for lacking of money in the underdevelop-ed areas.
