A new curriculum reform started in2001. The new curriculum reform focus on the classroom reform, and the core of the classroom reform is to mobilize the learning enthusiasm of students. As the saying goes:"Interest is the best teacher", so the key of the learning enthusiasm is the students’ interest in learning.In2010, Zi Chang Senior High School, located in Yan’an City, Shaanxi Province, began to implement the new curriculum reform. In order to implement the new curriculum reform of the geographical subject better, a research of the students’interest in learning geography is particularly important. The purpose of the research on this topic will be to promote the geography classroom teaching of Zi Chang Senior High School, students’ comprehensive development, and geographic teachers’self-improvement.The theoretical basis of this research is combining relevant theories of Pedagogy, Educational Psychology and Teaching Theory. The questionnaire, literature review, and data analysis are the main methodologies of the research. Based on investigation and interview of students’geographic learning interest, the researcher arrived at findings and solutions to increase students’ interest in learning geography strategy by analyzing data.Firstly the paper analyzed and summarized the current situation of learning interest of domestic and foreign geographical research and its outcome.800students from different classes were selected from Zichang Senior Middle School in Zichang, Yan’an, to conduct a questionnaire, using the questionnaire on geographical points of interest. The instruments used in present study are a questionnaire and Microsoft Excel. After collecting the returned questionnaires, I put all of the information into the software to analyze, concluding a statistical analysis and the following results:(1)Students’ interest in learning geography is one-sided. Students’ interest in geography is just form the pressure of the college entrance examination.(2)What the student most interested is the knowledge of physical geography.(3)Geography class influences students’learning interest. Multimedia teaching tools, songs, videos, import mode, approximately30minutes’teaching, first learning and then teaching and inquiring learning mode, are most popular among students.(4)Teachers’teaching styles affect students’learning interest. Teachers who are humorous are most popular. (5)After-class activities of geography attract students’attention.Based on the findings, the author puts forward the following strategies for improving high school students’interest in learning geography:(1)Teachers should stimulate students’ interest in learning geography by being more charming, focusing on classroom teaching and holding more after-class activities of geography.(2)For students, they should promote their interest in learning geography, trying to change the motivation of learning geography, participating after-class activities of geography and learning geography as more ways as possible.(3)Schools and parents should raise students’interest in learning geography. Try to increase investment in schools, pay more attention and take actions to let students know the significance of learning.(4)For the administrative departments of education, they should guide students to learn geography. To enrich teaching resources, let students learn geography ahead of time and influence public opinion.
