Congenital heart disease is a kind of disease which influence the quality of newborn population in China heavily. As the guardians and caregivers of patient children, parents usually suffer from pressure before and after the operation. So it’s necessary to help them to deal with unusual mood.China’s service model in hospital is now in a transition phase from biomedical model to bio-psycho-social medical model. Experts and scholars at home and abroad have made lots of studies about the emotional character of parents and case work for them. Research shows that obsessive compulsive symptom, anxiety, fear and psychotic symptom can be discovered from parents of patient children. During the internship in Shanghai D hospital, author used to make a casework for a child with congenital heart disease and his family from Guizhou province. In this whole casework, with Social Support Theory as the practice model, author developed strategy including emotional comfort, linking resources, information providing, assistance in director self-determination aimed at client’s needs in emotion, economy, information and experience in hospital. By evaluation of the casework, the effort of emotional comfort and linking resources is proved to be effective, while that of information providing and assistance in director self-determination is useless and resulting in ethical dilemma. According to the professional skills and lessons in this case, author makes a summary of the particularity of social work in mainland, rethink the ethical dilemma profoundly and also makes suggestions for localized development of medical social work in mainland.
