Students in the “Chunleiban”(or Spring Buds Classes) are from differentareas in Yunnan. They have good grades but poor family background. It is noteasy for them to be away from their familiar neighborhood and live in a newschool. They begin to be weary of studying, lack confidence, and they begin tobe homesick. They need a mutual communication based on similar conditionswith those in their hometowns. In Yunnan, most ethnic minority peoples havetheir unique traditional sports and cultures, with serve as a bridge through hichthese girls transfer from the old living environment to the new one. Sportsactivities are relaxing and they are helpful in building self-confidence. Theintroduction of ethnic sports activities into the “Chunleiban” gives the girls asense of belonging, thus creating a relaxing environment for the girls to learnbetter and live better. Based on interviews and comparative studies, this paper,with the Senior Two “Chunleiban” as the case for study, explores girl students’need for ethnic sports and its effect. The paper aims at enriching theschool-based sports curriculum designing in senior middle schools.
