One of the main goals of China’s current educatinal reform in middle and highschools is to improve students’ scientific literacy. The curriculum reform, as part of it,is required to strengthen the links between the courses and students’ life, modernsociety and scientific development. The role played by teachers is to be altered fromthe traditional possessors of knowledge to reseachers in educational research, theinspirational sources and coaches to the students’s growth, learning and researching.Meanwhile, the students are required to become good self-learners, researchers andcooperators. However, most of the high school students, especially the fresh ones, arenot well qualified, if evaluated by the goals of the reform. In this article, a teachingmodel entitled as “learning roadmap” is presented. This model features by thecooperation between the teachers and the students, unlike the current modelsdominated by the teachers. The roadmap is first made by the teacher taking thestudents’ status into consideration. Then the teacher and the students work together torefine the roadmap. The final product can effectively guide the students’ reading,thinking and problem solving. Theoretically, this model works to improve thestudents’ originality, capability of self-management and to help them to become goodlifelong learners. These merits also make this model in consistency with the goals ofthe educational reform.During the internship of the author’s in Guandu No.1Middle and High School,Kunming, Yunnan, China, the above model has been applied to part of the10thGradestudents and research on the effectiveness of the model, employing questionnairesurvey and intervew survey has been conducted simultaneously. The results of thesurveies confirm the theoretical expectations of the “learning roadmap” model.Furthermore, the model in practice can improve the students’ problem-solving skillsand the average grade in tests has also been significantly improved. In conclusion, the“learning roadmap” model is a very model that realizes the teacher’s role required bythe educational reform.
