Zone of Proximate Development, put forward by Lev Semenovich Vygotsky according to the research in the relationship between learners’ development and teaching, refers to the gap between learners’ actual level of development and potential level of development. It profoundly expounds that the Zone of Proximal Development of children is a dynamic process and it is different from person to person. Teaching should pay attention to grasp children’s study critical period so that it can turn out to be good and effective. The teaching should take advantage of the theory of Zone of Proximal Development, converting learners’ potential level of development into the actual level of development step by step.This paper based on the theory of the Zone of Proximal Development and combined with the teaching practice finds out that there are two problems existed in the teaching process. One is about how to measure the students’ Zone of Proximal Development, and the other is about how to design and complement the teaching process according to Zone of Proximal Development. For the first problem, after doing a lot of literature research and consulting senior teachers, the author finds out teachers could measure the Zone of Proximal Development through taking homework assignment information feedback、class exam measure test、behalf of the interview method and observation,etc. As for the second problem, in the author’s opinion, the teaching process is designed and carried out in accordance with the result of measurement of Zone of Proximal Development, the teaching objectives and the appropriate, effective teaching methods, setting relevant questions to guide the students step into their Zone of Proximal Development.The result of researching in mechanics teaching in Senior One shows that teaching, under the theory of Zone of Proximal Development, can shorten the time of teaching and at the same time increase students’ interest in learning physics and improve the students’ overall academic records,particularly for the average students and the excellent rates of the class. Therefore, effective teaching lies in that teachers could find out students’ Zone of Proximal Development and accordingly, adopt appropriate teaching methods.
