The society are led by the continuing development of social economy.During this process, the conflict between the requirement of the quality of talent and the content of curriculum arises. Many high schools in different countries are reforming the curriculum according to the the requirement of applied talents. So,the reforms to Higher mathematics in Liberal Arts whichare put forward to the arts normal student have deep and profound meaning.This research gives the answer as to the questions like: Why should the arts student learn Higher mathematics in Liberal Arts? What is the use of Higher mathematics in Liberal Arts for them? How to locate the identity of Higher mathematics in Liberal Arts? How should the content of Higher mathematics in Liberal Arts curriculum be set that can satisfy the cultivation needs of arts normal students?To solve the problem, the author first studies the history of the development of Higher mathematics in Liberal Arts, analyse the necessity of learning Higher mathematics in Liberal Arts and the importance of cultivating the ability of arts normal student. Then, from the perspective of educating arts normal student, the thesis compares the aim and setting of overseas higher level math course and those in China, as well as discusses what the aim, curriculum setting and orientation of higher level math course should be. And then, the author makes a survey to the at-school arts normal university students and study the statistics from this survey, which is intended to analyse the problem that exists in the higher level math course. Finally, after have deep understanding of the aim,content and setting of higher level math course, the thesis puts forward some further strategies to improve.The advice for improvement are listed as follow: First, this course should bechanged into a compulsory course to be taken seriously. The aim of this course should not only be the mastery of mathmaticalknowledge and skil, but also the cultivation of mathmatical literacy. Second, according to the survey, the course setting are mainly influenced by the curriculum, student and teacher. Thus,improvement should be made in these three aspects. Third, develop the content which is needed by the arts student’s future developmen, combining contents like live, thought, culture and arts. Add some related content under this situation and combine it with the math major in order to fully show the combination of theory and practice. Besides, add some content that is related to the arts majors, so that the combination and artistic subjects can bring together application and theory.
