To look at the situation of their basic education, currently, all countries around the world are focusing on the mother tongue education and national culture development. To read cultural classics is one important way of mother tongue education. To implement and promote this concept, since 2007, Ten Classics have been included in the scope of college entrance examination in Jiangsu province. Since then, the Ten Classics have been learned in the classroom. In high schools, the course of Ten Classics is of great significance, which can accumulate language sense and increase Chinese attainments. Besides, it can broaden students’ bounds of language and improve their humanistic literacy. Moreover, Ten Classics can also enrich students’ spiritual world and polish their volitional quality. Last but not least, it can push on students’ classics reading and improve their test ability.Having taken Taizhou and Suzhou Industrial Park as the research sample, this paper mainly focuses on the situation of Jiangsu province. To combine the teaching and studying of these ten classics, the paper will use the statistical and comparative methods, so as to sort out the situation and characteristics of the studying of these ten classics. On these bases, this paper will find out the existing problems and try to find a solution to the problem according to the reasons. The problems of teaching of Ten Classics are as follows:To begin with, some teachers are too utilitarian. The teaching materials teachers choose and the arrangements they make are too random. Secondly, the focus of teaching is almost similar. To make matters worse, their teaching methods are mechanical and the method of evaluating students’ learning effect is simplex. According to these problems, the author of this thesis will analyze the reasons for these problems from the aspect of schools, teachers and students.According to the existing problems of teaching Ten Classics and combining the reality of teaching and the results of research in our school, the author puts forward corresponding solutions to these problems from the aspect of the aim of teaching, the strategies of teaching, the focus of teaching, the way of teaching and the evaluation of teaching. The solutions include:deepening mutual understanding, clearly stating teaching aim, arranging as a whole, optimizing teaching, grasping the main characteristic, highlighting the key point, expanding activities, improving effects, focusing on feedback and perfecting assessment. The author hopes the paper can be a reference to other teachers to improve the teaching practice of these ten classics in high schools and enrich students’spiritual growth as well as promote the all-round development of students through the solutions mentioned above.
