As an important branch of early reading, parent-child book reading emphasizes on parentsenjoying picture books with their children in a close, friendly and harmonious atmosphere. Andit also stresses that parents discuss the story of the book and communicate it with their children,which can guide children with an active thinking and encourage them to express their viewpointspositively, so as to realize the goal of cultivating children’s reading ability in this two-wayinteractive activity. Because picture books has its unique values in contrast with other children’sbooks, picture books are the mainly version in parent-child book reading. For now, the majorityof the domestic researches are developing the early reading teaching activities based on childcarefacilities, lacking of researches on parent-child book reading. So in reference the predecessor’sresearch results, this study, which takes Jinan parents as investigation object, will discuss thecurrent situation of parent-child picture book reading by adopting the method of the combinationof quantitative research and qualitative research.Through the study of the present status of early childhood parent-child picture book reading,this article shows that most parents have a positive attitude towards parents reading picturebooks with their children. They think that parent-child picture book reading is of greatsignificance to children, which make children like to read picture books with their parents andlikewise. But at the same time, there are some problems: utilitarian purposes are existed inreading; parents who seldom set up dedicated reading area and choose picture books with theirsubjective preferences are failing in taking reading conditions seriously enough and parents inthe reading guidance method is single, lack of pertinence. In addition, parents also reflect that thereading guidelines which they groped their way forward in the vast majority are short of relevantnormative guidance, and the reading outside support is quite unique, etc.Based on the reason analysis above, this paper put forward five countermeasures combinedwith relevant theories: setting up scientific concept of parent-child reading; meeting the demandof infant development; creating suitable atmospheres; understanding the art of the picture booksso as to improve the ability to the choice of picture books; mastering the reading skills andoptimizing reading strategies; playing the role of social orientation and providing the outsidesupport, etc. All these strategies attempt to indicate directions in improving the efficiency of the parent-child picture book reading for parents.
