Early in the middle of 1930s, western scholars began to study the teaching environment but the research on it in our country started only a few decades ago. The teaching effect is affected and restricted by the teaching environment. Favorable teaching environment is beneficial to the realization of the teaching goal, while unfavorable teaching environment is hard to meet the teaching demands. It is considered that political lessons in middle schools play an important role in moral education of middle school students. Teaching environment is an important factor affecting the effectiveness of ideological and political course teaching, which has got extensive attention from all walks of life. The 18th CPC National Congress Report insists that education should serve socialist modernization construction and the people. Establishment of virtue and cultivation of high-quality talents which aim to nurture comprehensively developed socialist builders and successors are the fundamental task of education. Middle school ideological and political education is the basic work in the moral education. Therefore, it is imperative to mobilize people from all walks of life to work together on middle school students’ideological and moral education so as to cr.eate a good environment for the healthy growth of middle school students. And it is particularly important to make efforts to improve the teaching environment of middle school ideological and political lessons based on an objective analysis of current status of middle school political lesson teaching environment.The teaching environment of middle school political lesson can be divided into dominant and recessive environment. Base on 8 schools questionnaire survey, the current dominant and recessive teaching environments of middle school political lesson present the following characteristics:advantages such as reasonable political curriculum, gradually improved teaching resources and environment, and gradually formed school and class spirit; disadvantages such as poor space-time teaching environment, the lack of use of a variety of teaching resources, and poor working environment for teachers; opportunities such as students’ positive attitude towards political lesson and teachers, improved qualification structure of teachers, and gradually improved interpersonal relationship; threats such as impact caused by high pressure from examinations, family culture environment weakening the teaching effect of political lessons, and bad social public opinion threatening the effectiveness of political lesson teaching.It could be concluded that opportunities, challenges, advantages and disadvantages coexist in the overall teaching environment of middle school political lesson. To promote the optimization of teaching environment for middle school ideological and political education, we must take advantage of opportunities, maintain advantages, avoid weaknesses, meet the challenge, and optimize factors that affect the teaching environment of middle school political lesson, improve the effectiveness of the middle school ideological and political class. Specifically, according to the SWOT method, we must do the following:base on the internal advantages, seize the external opportunities; rely on the internal advantage, reduce the external threats; seize the external opportunities, avoid the internal weaknesses; overcome the internal weaknesses, reduce the external threats.
