In recent years, students declining physical problem stimulate people’s hearts. For this situation, the education department has been reformed the physical education curriculum, however, it did not achieve the desired results. Thus, scholars shift the focus on physical education and aware of the importance of physical exercise which can make up for lack of time and physical education.Extracurricular physical exercise is the further extend and support on certain aspects of physical education. The extracurricular physical exercise with high standard and high quality is an effective way to improve students’ physical fitness.Extracurricular physical exercise environment is one of the important elements of extracurricular physical exercise. The extracurricular physical exercise is conducted in the relatively broad and open space that it is more susceptible than other disciplines in interference and external factors. Thus, many researchers begin to research the extracurricular sports exercise environmental.Ten primary schools and ten secondary schools are chosen randomly in Yantai City from the aspects of natural environment, facilities, family factors, teachers’ level,students’ level, school spirit and class atmosphere, extracurricular sports periods and organizational forms and methods. On the basis of it, documentary study, questionnaire survey, expert interview method, and mathematical statistics are acquired to analyze the current situation of extracurricular PE environment and optimization problem. The results show that:1. None of the 20 primary and secondary schools in Yantai that being surveyed can meet the state regulations’ standard of school sports facilities. Only part of the equipment can reach the state standard of equipment and facilities and students reflect that the sports equipment can not meet the training needs.2. Facilities and equipment are relatively old and part of the equipment damage is quite serious without updating and maintenance in time.3. Sports field is relatively small and the number of exercising people is rather large, leading to the disorder of field, causing serious impact on the quality and influence of exercise.4. The shortage of sports teachers in schools and the scarcity of sportscompetitions make the school sports atmosphere not very strong. Besides, sports investment also restricts the development of extracurricular sports environment.5. The majority of the school is to organize extracurricular physical exercise in the form of class. And the form of organization did not give full play to the subjectivity of students, but students reflect that class organization is more conducive to the formation of good interpersonal relationships, the extracurricular exercise environment being more harmonious.Based on the situation, the author puts forward some optimizing strategies:To optimize the after-class physical exercise environment of middle and primary schools, schools’ strength is not enough, and the hard work of the government and the related departments is also necessary to achieve the ideal condition.Schools should arrange special staff to repair and maintain the equipment and facility to improve their years of use and utilization.Develop new resources correspondingly according to the local geographical conditions, and add students’ after-class exercise events. Yantai is a mountainous area,so it can fully use the mountain resources in students’ exercise environment.Schools should improve their mobilization of after-school physical exercise to let students grasp more skills, know more related knowledge and do after-class physical exercise scientifically and reasonably.
