Lead-in of class is the first stage of the whole class, and it plays significantly important part in classroom atmosphere arousing and students’ learning emotion and motivation maintaining. But lead-in of class was not taken seriously in middle school geography teaching in the past for a long time. Instead we paid more attentions to detailed knowledge and new lessons teaching. We ignored the positive effects which few minutes lead-in of class can make. As a result, the presence of the lead-in of class is just to constitute the whole class process. More often, it only used for the lead-in stage with monotonous and outdated methods. We can’t expect it can achieve a good result.This paper interprets the methods and implementing principles of lead-in of class in many perspectives, with the methods of literature research, questionnaire survey and case analysis. Effective teaching theory, constructivist learning theory, advance organizer theory, human-biased learning theory and learning motivation theory are the theoretical basis of this study. This paper will study the effectiveness of middle school geography teaching with the methods of survey research and theory analysis, the relationship of new curriculum standard and lead-in of geography class, the factors of influencing the effectiveness of lead-in. This paper also will study the strategys of lead-in effectiveness improvement with different contents of courses, different students and different motivation.The conclusions of this paper can be listed below:Well lead-in of middle school geography class have many benefits, not only can make the geography class become more attractive and make the student learn geography knowledge more happy and more efficient, but also make the teachers improve their professional skills and obtain the sense of achievement.Well lead-in of high school geography class must be effective and efficient, geography teachers must control the time of lead-in, longer or shorter lead-in time both will reduce the effectiveness of lead-in of class. Further more, lead-in of class should be not only an introduction, but also lead to more efficient teaching, such as catching the students’attentions, stimulating interest and motivation, driving thinking, clearing objectives and so on.There are many teaching methods and monotonous method always will be useless, it’s important to find the right method to carry out teaching. There are also many valuable principles to lead in the class, such as lead-in with questions, lead-in with situations, lead-in with local geography and lead-in with multi-media.1. There are many sections and knowledge in high school geography, but the contents of each section have many common points. So there are also some common principles to carry out the lead-in of class. According to those common points and principles, geography teachers should pay more attentions to collect the materials can be used in lead-in of class during their daily life, also pay more attentions to the lead-in of their geography class.
