Study On The Coordinated Development Of Urbanization And Industrialization In Yunnan Province

Urbanization and industrialization are the important driver and carrier of promoting the development of economy and society. The historical process of social development shows that urbanization and industrialization are the only way to the modern society. To some extent, the integrated development of both determines the level of development and competitiveness of a region. At present, Yunnan province is facing the double opportunity of western development and the bridgehead strategy. With a strong government support in opening up, industrial upgrading, perfecting social security system, constructing infrastructure and improving ecological environment, there must be a stage of economic takeoff in Yunnan province. However, many problems appeared in the process of promoting urbanization and industrialization in Yunnan province. The development of them was too isolated from each other to hinder the speed and quality of economic development in Yunnan province. Hence, researching coordinated development between urbanization and industrialization in Yunnan province has great theoretical and practical meaning.Based on the analysis of the status and characteristics of urbanization and industrialization in Yunnan province, and the interactive relationship between them as well as the mechanism of interaction, this paper has selected out specific evaluation indexes, which can reflect the coordinated development of urbanization and industrialization in Yunnan province; and with the aid of the functional model which can evaluate and predict coordinated development in urbanization and industrialization, it has analyzed coordinated development status of urbanization and industrialization from 2003 to 2012 in Yunnan as well as in the 16 cities of Yunnan province. There are two main conclusions. Firstly, the situation of the harmonious development of urbanization and industrialization in Yunnan province from 2003 to 2012 is improving steadily, but the level of coordination is only at a low level. There has been non-coordination and weak coordination for a long time at the initial stage. As a major change in urban and rural society, a large number of labors in the countryside transfers to towns. Urbanization has developed rapidly and showed a coordinating tendency by 2012. Secondly, for the 16 cities in Yunnan province, Kunming, the capital, has had a relatively higher level of urbanization and industrialization by 2012. It is in harmonious state. Whereas Baoshan city, Zhaotong city, Xishuangbanna city, Dehong city, Nujiang city and Diqing city are in non-harmonious state, and the rest of the 9 regions are in the weak harmonious state. The results showed that the dynamic coordination degree in these two systems has been improved. Although the speed is relatively slow, it is also in a constant rising trend. On this basis, combined with the analysis in the particular features of Yunnan, which has effects on the coordinated development of urbanization and industrialization in Yunnan province, this paper puts forward some countermeasures for the coordinated development of industrialization and urbanization in Yunnan province.
