Children’s literature is an irreplaceable part in Chinese textbooks used in primary schools and occupies an important place in Chinese teaching. It accords with chirdren’s reading psychology, cognitive rules and psychological development rules.Therefore, it has a positive effect on the healthy development of a child’s mind and body. In this paper, the concept of Children’s literature and its historical changes are reviewed at first. Then, this paper chooses chirldren’s literature articles in the current7 thJiangsu Education Press version of Chinese textbooks published in 2008 to explain the role of chilren’s literature in Chinese teaching in primary schools and the importance of children’s literature teaching in primary schools. Next, questionaire surveys and interviews which are participated by 360 Chinese teachers and 479 primary school students are conducted. It is found that current children’s literature teaching has its gratifying side, but many problems exist. These problems are analyzed mainly in three aspects—teachers, students and textbooks. And, on the basis of that, corresponding suggestions are made.The research reported in this paper is aimed to call on Chinese educators and frontline teachers to pay attention on children’s literature teaching in primary schools, get familiar with its style features,improve themselves’ literacy and make great efforts to teach it well in order to truly make use of its unique charms.
