The picture-book is widely recognized as the most proper reading material for children, which is of significant value to the development of children. However, the selecting and using conditions of picture-books are of varying qualities, which leads to lack of educational value.The research aims at knowing the selecting and using condition of picture-books in senior class of experienced kindergartens, so as to provide reference and guidance for other kindergartens. Through the methods of observation, interview and analysis, the research chose a high-quality kindergarten in Qingdao as an example, including: the sources of picture-books, the composition of selected picture-books and the instruction of teachers to children in the reading process. The research came to the following conclusions:Firstly, the sources of picture-books are: books borrowing by the teachers and bringing by the children themselves. The teachers tend to select the books which could arouse children’s interest of reading, expand the children’s knowledge about a specific lessen theme, and solve the children’s problems at present. The books selected by the family enrich the theme, content and channel and increase the number and varieties of picture-books. Secondly, the composition of selected picture-books reflects a high level of teachers and parents in selecting books. Thirdly, the picture-books used in educational activities have the structure of including spiral double plot. Fourthly, the kindergarten often undertakes targeted trainings of teachers or parents, such as reading appreciation training to teachers and picture-book salon among parents. Fifthly, the teachers’ instructions to children include their actions in the book display area and in teaching activities. Instructions in the book display area aim at the putting of the new books and children reading habit. The instructions in teaching activities have the figures of integrating teaching concept and attaching great importance to the use of text. Sixthly, the methods of children reading include independent reading, shared reading, creative reading and borrowing reading.Based on the above conclusions, the research makes the suggestions of attaching importance to early reading education, respecting the children’s principal position and developing the cooperation between kindergarten and families to promote the picture-book reading of children.
