With the propulsion, the leadership of the party and the government got great development in recent years, China’s higher education, especially the college counselor team construction has made great achievements. But in today’s profound changes have taken place in education, the ideological and political education is facing new development opportunities, but also faced with severe challenges. On the one hand, the development of social economy and the impact of the large amounts of foreign culture deeply affects the ideology and behavior of contemporary college students, on the other hand, in today’s society and the rapid development of science and technology, more conducive to the students set up the consciousness of innovation, striving to improve the positive. So, at this time as a lead to the growth of the college students of university counselors must cultivate innovative talents in response to the country’s call to fully implement the party’s education policy, to strengthen and improve ideological and political education, attaches great importance to the healthy growth of the student body and mind, realize the students’growth and success.From the beginning of 20th Century, based on different perspectives, the foreign management scientists, psychologists and sociologists have studied how to stimulate the enthusiasm of the people in the study and work, given full play to the creativity, so as to create success. The early motivation theory mainly studied how to mobilize the enthusiasm of the work by stimulating the "need" of people, including Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory and McClelland’s theory of achievement motivation. Applying incentive theory to the management of College Students’education, the effectiveness of the students work will be improved. Hence, it has gradually become the focus of university instructors’work, and has a great impulse. By this way, it aims at stimulating people’s inner potential andarousing people’s initiative and creativity through motivating people’s actions, spiritual encouragement or material rewards and punishments etc., in order to achieve the goal of improving people’s learning and work efficiency at last. Therefore, along with the teaching reform of higher education, one of the important contents of the university administrators and the education and teaching staff in the universities is that, how to apply the motivation theory to the work of college counselors and push the research field of higher education to a new height.College students are country’s future and hope, and the counselor is the guidance of university student, is the student ideological and political education and daily management of the organizer, leader and implementers, college counselors must be familiar with all kinds of education teaching methods and means for students to guide correct development road, promote the scientific culture, moral accomplishment and the coordinated development of health quality. Among them, the role of incentive theory in college counselors work to be reckoned with, and it can timely education and guide the student to improve college students’ ideological understanding and ability to resist setback, can help students smoothly and successfully complete their studies, truly become a pillars just by the state.
