A Study On The Application Of "Case Study" In Junior English Teaching

The new curriculum standard states clearly that cultivating and arising students’ learning interest is extremely important in basic education. The teacher should help students cultivate good habits of learning English and then forge the path forward for effective method of learning English. With the further development of new curriculum reform,the learning-plan guided teaching and learning method appears, which is regarded as a carrier to achieve the instructional objectives together with teacher.Based on the teaching material for Grade Eight of PEP, the key points in 10 modules are integrated to product the guided learning plan and applied in English teaching for one month,aiming to assess its effectiveness in teaching practice and students’ acceptance to this new method, as well as the main problems in application.60 students in Grade Eight of Jinxiang are regarded as the research object. The learning-plan guided teaching and learning method are used in experimental class, on the contrary, the control class still use the traditional teaching method. Classroom observation,questionnaire, interview and test are used for data collection. The study has got the following results: Firstly, the learning-plan guided teaching and learning method can stir up students’ interest effectively. Students can develop active learning habits in English through the steps like“class preparation”, “learning activities”, “practice and consolidation”, “reflection after class”and “homework”. Students’ English learning strategies become more diverse and the learning state is on the rise. Secondly, during the implementation of this method, students in experimental class improve their performance slightly. It suggests this method can improve the effect of English learning. Thirdly, most students go along with this teaching method and can adapt it quickly. In a word, the learning-plan guided teaching and learning method can improve teaching effectiveness and it is applicable in junior middle schools. However, we should pay attention to the design and implementation so as to maximize the benefits.
