We usually reckon that a country or region enters the aging society when the proportion of the population aged 65 and above reaches 7% or aged 60 and above reaches 10% of the total population. According to China’s fifth census data, the population aged 65 and above is 88 million 110 thousand,accounting for 6.96% of the total population. At the end of 2000, we entered the aging society. With the increasing trend of aging, it has brought a series of problems initiating the old-age education. In1983, China’s first university for the aged-- "Red Cross university for the aged of Shandong Province" was setup,from which the university for the aged has become an important carrier of the education for the aged. With the continuous growth of the university, relying on University to hold the university for the aged becomes a sort of special form, and continues to develop.In our country,a teaching staff who love aged education and are willing to dedicate is the key factor that brings the education for the aged as the sunset project and sunrise business to start from scratch to large development in today. To continue the healthy development of the aged education in our country, we must stress and strengthen the construction of the teaching staff. The Characteristics of teaching staff in universities for the aged are different from those in College Teachers’ because of the particularity in the education object---older students have special physiological and psychological characteristics.Thus,it posts higher requirements for the quality of the teachers working in the University for the aged.This paper mainly takes the University for the aged as the research object with the core quality of teachers as the research questions.The following methods are adopted:Literature analysis, questionnaire survey, interview,case analysis and case study of SN university for the aged.Discussions are based on two perspectives of teachers and students about what core qualities should the teaching staff working in universities have and its present situation and existing problems as well.This paper mainly includes the following conclusions: First, the college teachers of the aged education should have the following core qualities: 1. The college teachers of the aged education should fully understand the students’ physical and mental characteristics. 2. The college teachers of the aged education should have the following personal qualities: the physical health, patient, careful, responsible, caringstudents, amiable, emotional control ability, expression ability, learning ability,communication ability, has the concept of comprehensive education of improving the quality of the elderly. 3. The college teachers of the aged education should have the following knowledge qualities: profound professional knowledge, deepen system theory knowledge of education. 4. The college teachers of the aged education should have the following teaching qualities: a complete teaching plan, preparation before class, editing the teaching material, the ability of controlling modern educational technology, interaction with students, teaching humor, homework and modification.Second, the college teachers of the aged education still do not very well. We should take some measures to improve the quality of the teachers and improve the quality of the aged education.
