Prior researches show that the differences in the degree of education may lead to variations in personal disability. This paper attempts to analyze the influencing factors of education gradients in the elderly from the perspective of life course, and further, use the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS)2011 national baseline survey data and the 2014 follow-up survey(life history survey)data to do some simple regression analysis, what's more, according to the regression results to calculate the contribution of various factors. We use the daily activity ability(ADL)and the instrumental daily activity ability(IADL)to measure the elderly disability, and consistent with the life course of the elderly in the order of the childhood health status and economic situation, starvation experience, occupational experiences, health behaviors, chronic diseases, health care, living arrangements and social interactions that may affect the disability due to education gradients. Our paper takes a further study to show that education reduces the incidence of ADL disability and IADL disability among middle-aged and elderly people significantly.Furthermore,The education gradient of middle-aged and elderly disability is present. The main factors that affect the educational gradient of ADL disability and IADL disability in middle-aged and old people are childhood economic status and health status. As a result of the fact that there are significant differences in urban and rural areas in China,so we take a further analysis for the differences between urban and rural areas, the regression results show that in rural areas and urban areas, the education gradient of the elderly ADL disability and IADL disability is also existing. The education gradient of middle-aged and elderly people in rural areas is mainly affected by the health status and economic status, living arrangement and social communication in childhood. The education gradient of middle-aged and elderly people in urban areas is mainly affected by occupational experience and chronic diseases impact. The conclusion of this paper shows that increasing educated people and raising the education level can effectively reduce the incidence of disability and improve the health of the elderly. This paper have strong policy enlightenment value for China, which is going to be the aging society.
