With the popularity of ordinary high school, the quality of the nursing students of secondary vocational schools has increasingly decreased. The students are lack of enthusiasm for learning, coupled with the poor medical environment, frequent incidents of injuring doctors, and grim prospects of employment for the nursing students of secondary vocational schools and other factors, resulting in the fact that a large number of nursing students after graduating have abandoned nursing, which worsens the shortage of nurses(especially primary care specialists), thus affecting the development of the nursing profession. In this study, factors affecting the vocational nursing students’ professional identity will be analyzed in terms of professional identity, and its correlation with learning motivation will be examined in the hope of improving nursing students’ professionalism, strengthen their professional firm conviction, stimulating their motivation and improving their learning state by increasing their professional identity in order to improve the employment rate and quality of the vocational nursing graduates, therefore contributing to fostering high-quality nursing talents. In this study, “Vocational Nursing Students’ Professional Identity Questionnaire” designed by Hao Yufang and “Vocational Students’ Motivation Questionnaire” designed by Yu Lei were used to survey 408 nursing students in the first and second year in Yuxi Health School, Yunnan. Independent-samples T-test and one-way ANOVA were adopted to examine professional identity, the status quo and influencing factors of the motivation of the vocational nursing students, and product-moment correlation was used to explore the relationship between professional identity and learning motivation of the vocational students. The research results show:(1) the professional identity of the nursing students in Yuxi Health School scored significantly higher than that of the nursing students in Qujing Health School;(2) Upon examination of the vocational nursing students in different grades, there are significant differences in professional identity and motivation, the first-year nursing students better than the second-year nursing students;(3) whether the vocational nursing students chose their major on voluntary basis or not results in the striking contrast in professional identity and motivation, those who chose willingly obviously better than those who did not;(4) the nursing student whose father is well-educated shows less professional identity and motivation than the one whose father is ill-educated;(5) the vocational nursing students from the countryside have higher professional identity than those from the city, while the nursing students with farming parents have higher professional identity than the nursing students with non-farming parents;(6)there are noticeable differences in professional identity among the vocational nursing students from different sources of places; the nursing students from the Hongta district of Yuxi have less professional identity than those from the other 8 counties in Yuxi and other regions;(7) there is no apparent contrast in professional identity and motivation between the vocational nursing students who are only children and those who are not;(8)the vocational nursing students’ professional identity and motivation are positively correlated.
