The professional identity recognition of Secondary vocational nursing students(hereinafter referred as ‘nursing students’), who function as personnel reserve of professional nursing practitioners, will directly affect the stability of the nursing personnel. The critical formation period of professional identity recognition amongst the nursing students will be during their clinical practice period. The analysis of the changes of their professional identity recognition before and after clinical practice, as well as the causes and consequences, will provide constructive guidance to educational institutions, like schools, hospitals, other social facilities, in guiding nursing students to establish positive professional identity recognition.This article is composed of three parts in analyzing changes in professional identity recognition amongst nursing students before and after the clinical practice, also exploring the underline causes and consequences.First part is introductionary section. It explains the theoretical definition of professional identity recognition, also the practical methodologies used for researching this subject; it also contains previous theories and their studying conclusions. It supplemented with proposed research methods and supportive references in the end. The second part illustrates the differences of students’ professional identification recognition before and after clinical practices, by employing statistical figures and necessary methodology in analyzing the constant and variable generated from survey results, with it underline causes also being analyzed. The third part proposed suggestions and practical solutions in how to prevent the negative fluctuation of professional identity recognition among the nursing students by effectively mobilizing the resources from social community, schools, practicing hospitals, families, and individual students themselves, in order to assist them achieving successful career prospect.This paper used Sichuan Provincial Health School as studying sample. It conducted a research on 494 nursing students from Sichuan Provincial Health School, the changes of their professional identity recognition before and after their clinical practices. The study results imply that, the immediate overall level of professional identity recognition of nursing students after the internship remained low, especially in terms of the five significant aspects, i.e. sense of meaning, sense of organizational impact, sense of coherence, sense of control, and sense of self-determination & orientation. However, there are other decisive factors that contribute to the general recognition among nursing students of their professional identification, such as, whether they are the only child of family, whether their household based in town or rural, whether they are junior or senior students, whether he/she assume a class-leader role, and whether it was an voluntary choice to be nursing student, as well as individual’s academic achievement, or whether they with or without working experience during study, etc.The research result found out that, there are multiple factors combined together to cause impacts on the changes of professional identity recognition among nursing students before and after clinical practices. It calls for combined efforts from society, schools, hospitals, families and individual students to work together in improving students’ general professional identity recognition.
