The development of society and technology all depend on the improvement of education. Education should be geared to the needs of modernization, the world and the future. And it requires teachers, who bear the responsibility to the raise of the future constructor, to absorb new thoughts and ideas and improve their teaching and research ability continually. Thus it reinforce the adaptability of teachers. In fact, the time of the lump-sum education, which depends on college education, had already gone. All the countries around the world pay much attention to the continuing education and lifelong education. So does China. In accordance with the common requirements and generality of teachers of different levels and subjects, continuing education for teachers should be based on the reality of the education reform, and try to enhance the competence and quality of teachers, rejuvenate their knowledge and ability. With the guide of the theories and the methods of psychology and pedagogy and the renewed concepts on teaching, running schools and talented person, teachers should teach in modem ways, and develop the research of teaching. And all the abilities above .3. 3- are not only the requirements but the basic knowledge and methods of every educationists. The author consulted documents of continuing education for high school teachers from the central government, Henan Province and Zhengzhou, attended several informal discussions with persons engaged in the work of continuing education for high school teachers, etc. Thus the author makes an overall survey of the present situation of continuing education for high school teachers in Zhengzhou. By analyzing the result of the questionnaire and the informal discussions, the author finds out the basic facts and the prominent problems of the continuing education for high school teachers in Zhengzhou. And in order to give some reference to the further development of continuing education for high school teachers in Zhengzhou, the author explores the relative countermeasures and suggestions. The object of this investigation includes training part, receiving part and all the parts related to continuing education for high school teachers in Zhengzhou, e.g. over 70 high school principals and 541 high school teachers of 8 different subjects, more than 100 teachers, experts and directors of the training part. The result is clear that contradiction of the working and training, the time arrangement of the training, qualities of the teacher, content and curriculum and the mode of teaching, etc. are the main problems of Continuing Education of High School Teachers in Zhengzhou. And the steps of guarantee, cognitive problems, improvement of the qualities of teachers, and the rearrangements of the contents, curriculum and the mode of teaching in continuing education for high school teachers are the basic resoufces. So the author advances some related countermeasures to the above. Furthermore, the 揟hree Systems?(organized system, training system and the feedback system) is posed in the end of this dissertation.
