The democratization of education is the worldwide trend of the education reform, while democratic teaching is the essential demand of it. For many years, the authoritarianism and totalitarian style have been dominating the teaching process as a formula and deeply embedded into people抯 mind. All abuses from the traditional teaching correlate with them while none of the achievements of current teaching reform has been gained without the democratic style. As far as the aim and means are concerned, democratic teaching embodies the value of modem education reform. It is becoming an increasing concern. There are two problems in connection to democratic teaching: theories and practice. By systemizing democratic teaching theories with historical and logical thinking, integrating into our educational tradition and teaching practice, this dissertation tries to establish our native idea of democratic teaching. Executing investigation under the guidance of the modern democratic teaching idea, universal non-democratic phenomenon has been found in teaching process, management of the classroom order, teaching evaluation and the relationship between teachers and students. After careful analyzing of the data and brooding over the problems, the writer concludes that carrying out democratic teaching is the vital measure to reach the target of the modern education. The approach to democratic teaching consists of three items: I .democratic participation; 2.equal intercourse; 3.toleration; This dissertation has probed into the theories of democratic teaching and made a realistic study on it. As to the practical exploration, a greater enrichment and development is in expecting.
